| Since we feel so obligated to help folks who claim that it is impossible to do for themselves when we have seen no greater a fertile ground than the US for socio-economic ladder-climbing in the history of the world, the only responsible and moral way is a negative income tax. Decide what income level is "hopeless" and anyone who makes below that level gets paid a check in proportion necessary to boost them up above that level. Then they have zero excuse for not being able to take care of themselves. Then there is zero chance for abuse. Then there is zero chance for inefficiencies in "the system". Since income-redistribution is all we are doing anyway, the negative income tax system is the most efficient and gives them the most freedom to get whatever it is they claim to be lacking in order to be a contributing member of society. But we don't do that.......WHY?
We all know why. Many just won't admit it.
